SID_LIST_LISTENER

I am wondering if Oracle 11g(in Windows 2008 environment) no longer requires an SID_LIST_LISTENER entry in the listener.ora file for every new database instance created.
I did a "lsnrctl status' and it did shows the instance name I expect to see. But when I check the listener.org file, it wasn't  there in the SID_LIST_LISTENER.  I hope I am not missing any steps in creating a good database.
