Item Templates

We have set up item templates to help with ease of adding items to the system.  Whan we add an item through the panels we get an error message Vendor priority location must be equal to one of the locations associated with the vendor.  it is just an error in the panel.  When we add it through the template it will not let us save the item.  Same error message, put we can't ok through it.  Is there some set up somewhere to still allow the add through the template
