Doubt on automated failover/switchover

Hi Guys,
I have question on automated fail-over/switchover.

In my experience I have seen in many environment that all the primary and physical standby databases fail-over/ switch over is maintained manually.
My question is what the challenges we face if we set up the fail-over/switch over automatically.
