Automatic receipt numbering for manual receipts (receivables)

Hi,
Any of your customers tried implementing standard or custom way to create automatic receipt numbers for receipts that are created manually. Receipts might be cash (Standard) or miscellaneous.

Any  help is greatly appreciated.
