For a starter with no constrains, is it worthy to spend time in SC 3.3?

Hello,
I'm undergoing a lot of reading before first experiments with SC.

At the moment two qualifying V890 are available (for SC 3.3 5/11) and/or two VirtualBox guests for SC 4.0.
Please, assuming no other technical or business constrains what would be the more realistic approach?
Use the real thing with SC 3.3 or face VirtualBox limitations, skip SC 3.3 and begin learning SC 4.0?
