iProc catalogs - excluding items

Currently 11i, upgrading to 12.1.3 - Does iproc now see all purchasable items created in the item master?  I need to exclude any item that does not exist on a PO document or Req Template similar to 11i...can I do this in R12?  Items that need to be excluded have the same category as items that need to be included.  The documentation seems to mention PO documents mostly but I have seen diagrams that suggest otherwise.  Thanks.
