BRM How Many Software installations for multi - schema

Good morning,
A simple question:
If I embark on a large multi - schema installation say 12 schemas.
How many software installations would I need.
If I have one for the master installation.
Would I need 1 for each schema?
This would therefore be 12 software installations
i.e. 12 x /opt/brm and 12 x /var/brm
or
Could I use the second installation for all the other schemas.
I know this would work when using environment variables in my pin.confs
My problem is infranet.properties, pin_ctl where variables can not be used.

This of course does impact patching in PROD, DR and PRE-PROD
