Crontab During Patching?

  I couldn't find an official answer so thought I would ask.  I'm not a dba. I manage a tool by HP called Database and Middleware Automation that allows DBAs to patch and provision.  I've been a SA for many years.  

 Is clearing/nulling out the crontab necesary for patching?  

As an SA items in the crontab could always be a problem when patching.   If it's consistent that it should always be cleared out before patching then we can push HP to automate this portion.
