using web services to update birthday flag in CRM

Hi,I am trying to send birthday greetings via ODM with the help of integration with CRMOD and web services.
 I was told to create a checkbox field in CRM under leads and contacts named something like "Birthday?" and update that using a simple web services based program the day before their birthday and make it Yes and on the day of the birthday make it back to No.
I don't know much about web services, can anyone provide some guidance with this please?
