why does an EM 12c agent generate so much I/O traffic?

I have opened an SR, but thought I'd ask the community if anyone has seen a very high number of nfs calls when installing an EM12c agent to an NFS volume.

we have noticed an alarming trend as we migrate our EM agents to 12c agents. extremely high nfs calls on the volume that our agent is installed on in comparison to our 11g implementation. Is there any documentation explaining the I/O that an agent creates? we are seeing more then 10x the IOPS on the volume that we have installed our agents. a single agent averages close to 2500 IOPS per second and bursts over 25,000 for a single instance monitoring nothing but the host.
