How to SSO without using Oracle Access Manager in a WebContent cluster?

Is it possible to achieve Single Sign On (SSO) between WebCenter applications in a Weblogic cluster WITHOUT using Oracle Access Manager (OAM)?
We have a 2 node WebCenter cluster running Content, Spaces, Discussions, Portlet and Analytics which is front-ended by a software load balancer which redirects the initial requests to the least loaded HTTP Server instance. A separate Oracle Identity Management (OID) server has been setup and the cluster uses this as an external LDAP provider. This was done as we found performance problems when the internal LDAP provider was used and either server in the cluster was shut down.

I have now been asked to setup SSO between the WebCenter applications. I have spent some time looking into this and the recommended solution is to use Oracle Access Manager. However, I am told that we do not have a license for this so another way must be found to achieve SSO. Other options available include using 10g OSSO and using Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML). I am not keen on using 10g OSSO for my new installation due to supportability issues, which leaves me with SAML.

Howdy, Stranger!
