How to update FA with new values in Chart of account

The client is a Norwegian public sector client. Their current Oracle Financials setup is from 2003. The government has now ordered the client to change several of their values in the chart of account.

I know that the accountes defined in the setup of asset books and asset categories cannot be updated. Is there any other way of doing such  an update other than creating new categories?

The client would also like to delete numerous old assets, and this is not allowed by standard functionality. Does anyone have any good advice on how one can hide or make old, redundant assets less visible?
