Solaris 10 /var - soft partition?

I'm inclined to say this is a dumb idea, but I have a system with a /var filesystem that is a little too small. It's on its own dedicated mirrored volume at the moment. What could be the reason it would be a bad idea to create a soft partition out of excess storage I have in another slice and move /var to that larger soft partition? The slice is also a mirrored volume.
