Asset Subinventory Flag

 I have a sub inventory which is not an asset sub inventory, i want to make it asset sub inventory but system does not allows me i get message "Field is protected against update". Is there a way to do this.Also i believe items in asset sub inventory will make it to balance sheet financial reports, i want to modify the price related information --showing price as zero for capital sub inventory on balance sheet/financial reports, how can i do this
