timeout in locking .Xauthority file

Hi,

getting following error for user "moodle" with home directory /web/moodle when logging on with Putty.
"/usr/bin/xauth: timeout in locking authority file /web/moodle/.Xauthority"

"drwx------. 4 moodle moodle 4096 Sep 10 17:00 moodle"

if i recreate user with home directory as /home/moodle it works fine

No issues with any of the other users with home directory /home/username$

Has anyone had a similar issue?
