Report - export to Excel & PDF not functioning correctly?

We have noticed an increase in processing time when exporting a report into Excel format. Some users have noted up to 40 minutes processing time, after the report is downloaded and attempted to be opened by Excel. They did not experience this previously. This error message appears when excel is launched:

The file you are trying to open, ' report name xxxx.xls', is in a different format than specified by the file extension. Verify that the file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source before opening the file. Do you want to open the file now?'

Additionally, we have some issues with reports not being able to be converted to PDF format.
