SQL Tuning Advisor

Is there anything destructive about the STA ( SQL tuning advisor )?
I have run an addmrpt.sql report and it recommends to run the STA against a SQL_ID.

I have to do this in a production database and was wondering if this is a good idea.

What are the down sides to this ( beside the performance hit ) ?

Will it change or modify anything in the database?
