BIP data model: Element-level linking question

Hi all,

I'm working within the data model for a BI Publisher (v11.1.1.5) report and looking to utilize element-level linking to relate two data sets.  But I'm getting a No Element Found error and unsure why.  Any help, tips or trouble-shooting suggestions you might offer are much appreciated.

The two data sets successfully join on emplid in sql developer.

I'm using the element level link option from emplGroup.emplid. After clicking that, the empl_lookup is selected from the drop down of G_1.empl_lookup.  I've tried the element linking in two different ways. 1) with emplGroup grouped and 2) without grouping applied on emplGroup.  I see the No Element Found error both ways.  Screenshots for both are pasted below.
