Invoices with part payment cannot be deleted

Hi Guys/Gals,                        i have a somewhat strange situation, we have a number of duplicated invoices, one has a part payment and the other is paid in full. These part payment invoices are in error, is it possible to remove these invoices? currently oracle gives an error. if not can you give suggestions on how to correct these erroneous invoices. Please note that some of these part payment invoices go as far back as 2009... and all period have been closed since then.
