How to customize PO Requistion Approval Notification workflow in R12

Hello
I have an requirement to add some additional fields on the PO Requisition Approval Notification workflow. When i checked 'REQAPPRV' workflow and observed that it is the java code in R12 which is calling to build the workflow notification. Can anyone did these before, let me know where to start as I never worked on jsp pages... I think there may be some pl.sql code which will frame the notification in which i need to customize...plz suggest..
