Pre-Tax Deduction Setup

Q:  What is the best way to set up a deduction to be pre-tax?

A:  The best way is to use the F5 window from DBA Setup (P069117), menu G0742 (Pay/Deductions/Benefits Setup).  In the F5 window of the DBA Setup, there is a field called 401k/125/RPP/Union.  When you have a deduction that is pre-tax (401k or 125) you can populate this field with the appropriate value...401 for all deferred compensation plans, or 125 for a cafeteria plan deduction such as dental or medical.  These predetermined user defined codes allow Vertex to use current tax laws in the various jurisdictions to determine whether the DBA is pretax in that  tax area.  Using either of these codes
