Creating a reusable variable in CRM OnDemand Analytics

I want to use the fx button on a column and do some type of calculation to return a value to the column.  I then want to reference that calculated value somewhere else in another column.  Can I do that? 

I dont have a specific example so any suggestions/examples would be great.
