Hiding the Convert Lead Page - Go to Opportunity edit page instead

I would like for the user when they click on the CONVERT button on the Lead page to go to the Opportunity Edit page instead of going to the Convert Lead page.  This would simplify several issues we are having.  Does anyone know if this is possible?
