RMAN: What happens between ...

Backing up a 10.2.0.4 database using a 10.2.0.4 RMAN catalog

In RMAN, what is happening between getting the message "Finished backup at" and getting the RMAN prompt?  Lately, it seems to take longer and longer for that prompt to appear.
