Impact of not attaching a Payment Method to a Receipt Source

Hi Folks,
I was wondering if you could advise me on any impact that might happen if I do not attach a payment method while setting up a receipt source?

Actually I am deleting the value from the Payment Method field for one of the existing Receipt Sources so that no value defaults for the Payment Method field when creating receipt batches. This is what the user wants. 
Although it seems harmless, I would just like to confirm if there would be any impact on existing transactions/receipts?
