Manual Pack versus AutoPack API

I am using the API to pick confirm our sales order lines from our manufactoring plant which does the actual shipping --since we send out the DSNO file for these customers we do the ship confirm in Oracle --our manufactoring plants do not have that ability

we have been sucessful in moving our lines into a ship confirm status using the API but we did not load them into LPNs which is a requirement--I notice that we can either do a manual pack after the pick release or an auto pack

any suggestions as to which is best/easiest?
