Closing Action Items in Advanced Benefits

We have open action items for Designating Beneficiaries and I'm trying to close them to get ready for Open Enrollment in October.  If the Due Date on the action item is later than October, do I still need to close those out?  If so, how do I do that because it seems that the Close Action Items Process only closes those who have a due date that has passed.
