Running Depreciation on a dollar amount

Hi All

Is it possible to run depreciation on a dollar amount. 

Here is the scenario;  Every month a dollar figure is moved from an inventory account to an inventory.cap account. The inventory is capitalized. Now how would depreciation be run on this amount. Can it be run against the dollar amount in this account? Or do you have to have asset numbers in order to run the depreciation
