Invalid Characters in XDO_TRANS_UNIT_VALUES Value Column

I hope that this has made it to the correct forum.  All other postings I see for this table are also related to XML or BI publisher.  Hopefully someone can help me out.

We are in the process of upgrading our database from 10g to 11g and have hit some data that has some exceptions due to invalid characters. This seems to have happened on July 24, 2012 as this is what a majority of the 530 records are dated. What could have caused this corruption? Can we just null them out? The invalid records are also assigned to KR for a territory. We would not use them anyway. Here is an example of our exception report.
