Item Specific intra-class unit of measure conversion

I am on release 12.1.3.  Our items are setup for both standard and item specific conversions.  I have an item, already in stock with a unit of measure set that needs to be charged out by each.  When I enter the conversion data I get a warning INV05411 that indicates changing this might cause SEVERE data corruption.  What risks are involved here?
