Unable to account for Opening Accumulated Depreciation.

 I have added an Asset and manually entered an amount of Accumulated depreciation. However, accumulated depreciation should be accounted for as an expense and new depreciation (current month) should be also be treated as expense. But system just takes current exp and ignores the accumulated depreciation. Please advice what to do..
