EBS R12: how to patch multiple node apps tier

HI
Have two EBS R12 installations here, each with 2 apps tier nodes:

EBS R12 12.1.1 with a shared APPL_TOP on a shared disk
EBS R12 12.1.3  with a separate APPL_TOP on a local disk

Do I have to enable maintenance mode on both apps tier nodes?
Do I have to run the patch on both apps tier nodes?
