Amortization Adjustment

We are on 11i. My question is can we modify or reverse the amortization adjustment functionality once we done the changes in the book controls? To clarify if I reduce the life of asset from 10years to 5years and check allow amortization changes, do I have the option of reducing or increasing the life of the asset again if there is a need to do so?
