Can you Define a Prefix to Serial # when using the Asset Auto Generation at Org Level

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone has experience with defining a Prefix to a Asset Serial Number at an Org level while using the Asset Serial Number Auto Generation checkbox within the Org Parameter setup.  We don't want to setup in the Asset Group; too much maintenance/risk.  We have discovered that having multiple Orgs that use this Auo Generation checkbox creates the same numbers in each Org and even though the Asset Numbers are unique globally, this is causing errors and actual display issues with the multiple Org's information that uses the same Serial Number. I am looking for an alternate solution,
