What is the purpose of Has Generics Flag Field in Qutoe/Order line item BC ?

Hi Experts....Can some one provide the infromation for my queries....

1)What is the pupose of "Has Generics Flag"  Field in Quote item BC ?
2)When it becomes Y/N ?
3)Whether configurator populates this field by default(as a vanila functionolity)  or not?if not what is the configuration required to populate this field?

in our environmetn this field is always null.....so iam not able to judge..what is the use of this field?
