What is disk type in solaris

 Hi Guys, Pls explain what is disk type in solaris? how it get assigned to new luns? 

  We have a solaris server with emc vnx box... we present the two luns to the server, but server side the type of the luns are diff why? the luns size are
300gb and 900gb.
