How to bring additional fields into Check Writer Template

In R12, in Payroll Deposit advice/Check writer XML template, we need to bring in some additional fields not provided by the seeded template and also we have a requirement  to sort the earnings into four different categories and display them in separate areas of the template.  


How can we bring in the additional fields on  the template without modifying the seeded code that generates the XML .Can anyone please share their experience of having to customize the deposit advice and check writer.
