Journal Reversal different from the Journal

All,

Please let me have your input on a critical issue I am working on, a Journal was posted in Sept for £8,000 to automatically reverse in Oct but has reversed at £6,000, any explanation to the difference in amount. What could have cause this to happen? A journal entry has been made to correct the issue, but we need to know the reason for the difference in amount.
