Unable to create an appointment as a team member

Am I missing something? What do the access profile settings need to be for both the owner and default profile that will allow a team member to create an appointment or log a call to a contact. They are listed as a team member on both the account and contact record.  They also have "can read all records' for contacts for the record acess as part of their role.
