Use of 'update status' in View History of UIN

Hi All,
What is the use of 'update status' in the view history of UIN. Even if we update the status there will not be any impact in the Quantities but the status of the UIN is changed.

So, In which real time business scenario this functionality will be used. Explain me with a example plz
