Creating a CRMOD lead from ODM when the contact already exists in CRMOD

Currently an ODM campaign registration will create a new LEAD in CRMOD database... unless the contact already exists in CRMOD (the email field matches the response in ODM).
In this case (where the contact already exists in CRMOD), a task will be created and associated with the contact.
For campaign responses, where the contact already exists in CRMOD, we would like to find a way to still generate the lead, but to have it associated to the existing contact in CRMOD (say via the "Associated Contact" field on the lead).
