Is BIGFILE tablespace mandatory on Exadata to leverage the maximum benefits?

Hi All,

Greetings!!!

We have a 10TB database on HP-UX Itanium superdome on 10gR2.

We are in the process of migrating this database to Exadata? We are planning to perform the migration using cross platform transportable tablespaces.

We did a initial test migration and we were able to migrate the database successfully.

We also have a Consultant from Oracle Corporation who is working closely with us in this migration.

One of the things that the consultant is insisting is that we need to create all the tablespaces as bigfile tablespaces.

If we have to do such an exercise then we need to create new tablespaces with the bigfile option and have to move all the tablespaces and rebuild all the indexes and when we have to do this for a database of size 10TB, it is going to add to the downtime overhead for our migration?

Howdy, Stranger!
