How to manage archive logs in a data Guard environment

 Hi 
we are having a data guard environment, with one primary and one physical standby database. Both are 4 node clusters with ASM. Oracle RDBMS 11.2.0.2 on RHEL 5.6.
What is the best practice for managing archive logs in primary and physical standby?
