Perl Script to test E Business Suite Availability

Hi, I used to have a simple perl script which was able to simulate a user logging onto our E Business Suite Financials application. It would e-mail me if there was an issue logging on and meant that I didn't have to manually test the login through out the day. Since moving to 12.1.3 I've lost the script and can't even remember what perl module it used.

Does anyone out there have any ideas how to do such a thing? I used to check for Apache processes but I found on occasion that Apache would be up but users would get jdk errors when trying to log on.
