EFI advantages

In S11.1 x86 there's support for EFI in rpool.I'm looking for clarifications.

Besides raising the 2TB limit what would be other clear advantages of EFI?
For example, does it add resilience?
Would other advantages come in reality due to GPT advantages?
But what are they?

By the way, what EFI version does Solaris implement?
Is it a subset of UEFI?
