ASM vs CIO

I've started a discussion with our AIX sysadmins about implmenting ASM on AIX 64-bit 6.1.

Listening to all the sessions at Openworld 2012, Oracle keeps stressing the use of ASM as a storage solution.  There are some significant benefits to using it especialy from an adminstration aspect.  But I'm getting pushback from our AIX admins who say CIO is just as good or comparable to ASM.  I was wondering if there are any whitepapers, articles, etc, on the topic?  I've searched MOS and a meriod of topics come up but nothing really specific.  Google is nice but nothing really solid.

Any information woud be greatly appreciated.
