Is it worth having Project ID segment in COA ??

Q. Currently we have Project ID segment in COA? This leads to Auto Accounting errors, performance issues because our Code combination structure keeps on increasing and more maintenance?

What are the other ways to integrate Oracle Projects If we do not want to include Project ID segment in COA? What are the PROS and CONS? What oracle recommends?
