FASTR row calc giving incorrect result

in JDEdwards World (MOSC)
Q>  A FASTR row calculation is subtracting expenses from income to attempt to show profit or loss.  The two amounts are being added together instead of expenses being subtracted from income.  Why?
A>  The row calculation should add the positive number (expense) to the negative number (income) to find the difference (profit/loss).
