Allocation Rule Formula

We are using the Volume Carried Distance metric to allocate costs.  The help section defines this formula as (Order Cube Miles/Shipment Cube Miles) x (Weighted Percent/100) x Base Cost.  Could somebody help me understand what Order Cube Miles and Shipment Cube Miles are exactly?
