What is the use of item costing and when we should use item level costing

Hi Folks,

While defining Items, we can specify the cost as well, what is the use of this ?

when we should enter item level costing in real time implementation or supporting?

Which cost system will consider while calculating finished good cost i.e item level cost or material cost which assigned @ costing module?
